Overview
Stopped on a pedestrian crossing or within the zigzag area leading up to it.
From the warden's perspective
Warden's note
One of the most serious parking contraventions. Zigzag areas exist to keep crossings visible and safe. No stopping is permitted in the zigzag area at any time — there are no restricted hours, no loading exemptions. CEOs and cameras enforce this strictly. Adjudicators have very little sympathy for challenges here.
Common mistakes
Grounds councils sometimes get wrong — worth checking against your PCN and evidence pack.
- Brief stop assumed permissible
- Unaware zigzag area extended that far
- Loading assumed to be exempt (it is not)
Your rights
Grounds for challenge are very limited. Defective or missing zigzag markings is the main one. If the lines were faded or missing, photograph immediately.
